Ok, I’ve been working on a friend’s short film and helping him do up some story boards for a futuristic gang like film. It’s a great concept and I’m happy to see a a really well thought out script, which I believe has an excellent ending. I’m definitely proud to be part of the process. Some of the film is going to be shot in my neck of the woods aswell which adds an extra level of realism.
I’m trying to accommodate a complete digital process of the boards for the first time and I must admit it radically has sped up the production massively. Re-framing shots and re-using shots is just a matter of cut/copy and the transform tool, I am slowly understanding the versatility of the digital medium. The last time we did some boards together I had to have a pile of paper on hand and was constantly tracing over shots re doing shots and so on, the process got quite disorganized and chaotic.
Although doing the boards traditionally did carry a level of human error which I have come to admire and respect when working on anything. I guess that’s the payoff mechanical speed over human response. Below are some samples.
